Wednesday works: 8 graded-stakes winners are on the tab
Kopion fired a bullet at Santa Anita on Wednesday for trainer Richard Mandella.
The 4-year-old Omaha Beach filly went four furlongs in 46.8 seconds, fastest of 22 at the distance.
Kopion started the year with wins in the Grade 2 Santa Monica and Derby City Distaff (G1). Then she was second to Sweet Azteca in the Great Lady M (G2) and second to Seismic Beauty in the Clement L. Hirsch (G1), when she stretched out to 1 1/16 miles.
Mandella told Daily Racing Form last month that Kopion might have her next start in the Chillingworth (G3) at 6 1/2 furlongs on Oct. 4 or might wait for the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint at Del Mar on Nov. 1.

Nakatomi (Firing Line), a Grade 1 winner (2024 Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap), worked five furlongs in 1:00.6 at Keeneland on Wednesday morning. It was the sixth fastest of 13 works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going five furlongs at Keeneland. In his last start he placed third in the Alfred G. Vanderbilt (G2) going six furlongs on the main track at Saratoga on July 19 for trainer Wesley Ward.
Bring Theband Home (Into Mischief), a Grade 2 winner (2025 Troy), worked five furlongs in 1:02.8 at Woodbine on Wednesday morning. It was the ninth fastest of 10 works at the distance.
