Wednesday works: 8 graded-stakes winners are on the tab

Nakatomi, last seen finishing sixth in the Breeders' Cup Sprint, worked Wednesday morning at Payson Park.

The 6-year-old gelding by Firing Line breezed five furlongs in 59.8 seconds, fastest of seven at the distance, for trainer Wesley Ward.

Nakatomi won the Grade 1 Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap last year for his only graded-stakes victory. He then was second in the Phoenix (G2) before his Breeders' Cup attempt.

Nakatomi (Firing Line), a Grade 1 winner (2024 Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap), worked five furlongs in 59.8 seconds at Payson Park on Wednesday morning. It was the fastest of seven works at the distance. His previous work was nine days ago going four furlongs at Payson Park. In his last start, he placed sixth in the Breeders' Cup Sprint going six furlongs on the main track at Del Mar on Nov. 2 for trainer Wesley Ward.

Zeitlos (Curlin), a Grade 2 winner (2024 Thoroughbred Club of America), worked three furlongs in 39.4 seconds at Fair Grounds on Wednesday morning. It was the slower of two works at the distance. This was her first work since her last race. In her last start, she placed seventh in the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint going seven furlongs on the main track at Del Mar on Nov. 2 for trainer Steve Asmussen.

Super Chow (Lord Nelson), a three-time Grade 3 winner (2024 Maryland Sprint, 2024 Tom Fool Handicap, 2024 Toboggan), worked five furlongs in 1:01.2 at Gulfstream Park on Wednesday morning. It was the fastest of four works at the distance. His previous work was 11 days ago going four furlongs at Gulfstream Park. In his last start, he won the Gulfstream Park Sprint going six furlongs on the main track at Gulfstream Park on Feb. 22 for trainer Jorge Delgado.

Skelly (Practical Joke), a two-time Grade 3 winner (2024 Count Fleet Sprint Handicap, 2023 Count Fleet Sprint Handicap), worked five furlongs in 1:00.6 at Fair Grounds on Wednesday morning. It was the third fastest of 15 works at the distance. His previous work was six days ago going five furlongs at Fair Grounds. In his last start, he placed 10th in the Breeders' Cup Sprint going six furlongs on the main track at Del Mar on Nov. 2 for trainer Steve Asmussen.

Apple Picker (Connect), a Grade 3 winner (2024 Barbara Fritchie), worked four furlongs in 50.2 seconds at Laurel Park on Wednesday morning. It was the 10th fastest of 16 works at the distance. Her previous work was 10 days ago going three furlongs at Laurel Park. In her last start, she placed fifth in the Pink Ribbon going seven furlongs on the main track at Charles Town on Aug. 23 for trainer Brittany Russell.

Classier (Empire Maker), a Grade 3 winner (2021 Los Alamitos Derby), worked three furlongs in 36.4 seconds at Laurel Park on Wednesday morning. It was the second fastest of seven works at the distance. His previous work was 186 days ago going four furlongs at Laurel Park. In his last start, he placed eighth in an allowance race going six furlongs on the main track at Colonial Downs on Aug. 11 for trainer A. Ferris Allen III.

La Mehana (Al Wukair), a Grade 3 winner (2024 Waya), worked five furlongs in 1:03.4 at Payson Park on Wednesday morning. It was the fourth fastest of seven works at the distance. Special Wan (Belardo), a Grade 3 winner (2025 Honey Fox), worked four furlongs in 49.9 seconds on turf at Palm Meadows on Wednesday morning. It was the 16th fastest of 19 works at the distance. This was her first work since her last race. In her last start, she won the Honey Fox (G3) going one mile on the turf at Gulfstream Park on March 1 for trainer Brendan Walsh.
