Wednesday works: 15 graded winners are on the tab

Eight-year-old Goliad, winner of two graded stakes last year, worked at Santa Anita on Wednesday ahead of a planned start in Monday's Grade 1 Shoemaker Mile.

The gelded son of War Front went four furlongs in 47.6 seconds, fastest of 14 at the distance. In his last five works, he went six furlongs, with three of those trips on Santa Anita's synthetic track.

The Shoemaker Mile would be the 2025 debut for Goliad, who is trained by Richard Mandella. He was 11th in last year's edition of the race but went on to win his next two starts, including the Mint Millions (G3) at Kentucky Downs.

Goliad was one of 15 graded-stakes winners with published works Wednesday.

Major Dude (Bolt d'Oro), a three-time Grade 2 winner (2024 Fort Lauderdale, 2023 Penn Mile, 2022 Pilgrim), worked four furlongs in 49.2 seconds at Saratoga on Wednesday morning. It was the third fastest of 21 works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he placed third in the Opening Verse going one mile on the turf at Churchill Downs on May 1 for trainer Todd Pletcher.

Can Group (Good Samaritan), a Grade 2 winner (2023 Bourbon), worked five furlongs in 1:03.4 at Woodbine on Wednesday morning. It was the 22nd fastest of 24 works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going five furlongs at Woodbine. In his last start he placed fifth in an allowance race going 1 1/16 miles on the turf at Tampa Bay Downs on Feb. 15 for trainer Mark Casse.

Hoosier Philly (Into Mischief), a Grade 2 winner (2022 Golden Rod), worked four furlongs in 47.8 seconds at Churchill Downs on Wednesday morning. It was the fastest of seven works at the distance.
