Wednesday tab: Baeza has 1st work since Breeders' Cup

Baeza worked Wednesday for the first time since his sixth-place finish in the Breeders' Cup Classic.

The 4-year-old McKinzie colt went three furlongs in 39.0 seconds at Santa Anita, slowest of nine at the distance.

Trained by John Shirreffs, Baeza won the Grade 1 Pennsylvania Derby ahead of his Classic start. Before that, he finished in the money in the Jim Dandy (G2), Belmont Stakes, Kentucky Derby and Santa Anita Derby (G1) but couldn't cross the wire first.

Baeza was one of seven graded-stakes winners with published works Wednesday.

Baeza (McKinzie), a Grade 1 winner (2025 Pennsylvania Derby), worked three furlongs in 39.0 seconds at Santa Anita on Wednesday morning. It was the slowest of nine works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he placed sixth in the Breeders' Cup Classic going 1 1/4 miles on the main track at Del Mar on Nov. 1 for trainer John Shirreffs.

Napoleon Solo (Liam's Map), a Grade 1 winner (2025 Champagne), worked four furlongs in 49.0 seconds at Palm Meadows on Wednesday morning. It was the fourth fastest of 11 works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going three furlongs at Palm Meadows. In his last start he won the Champagne (G1) going one mile on the main track at Belmont at the Big A on Oct. 4 for trainer Chad Summers.

Subsanador (Fortify), a Grade 1 winner (2024 California Crown), worked three furlongs in 36.0 seconds at Santa Anita on Wednesday morning. It was the third fastest of nine works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going three furlongs at Santa Anita. In his last start he won the California Crown (G1) going 1 1/8 miles on the main track at Santa Anita on Sept. 28 for trainer Richard Mandella.

Nothing Like You (Malibu Moon), a two-time Grade 2 winner (2024 Santa Anita Oaks, 2023 Starlet), worked five furlongs in 1:03.0 at Palm Meadows on Wednesday morning. It was the third fastest of four works at the distance. Her previous work was seven days ago going four furlongs at Palm Meadows. In her last start she won the Dark Mirage going one mile on the main track at Los Alamitos on Sept. 20 for trainer Bob Baffert.

None Above the Law (Karakontie), a Grade 2 winner (2021 Del Mar Derby), worked four furlongs in 49.0 seconds at San Luis Rey on Wednesday morning. It was the third fastest of five works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he placed sixth in the Unusual Heat Turf Classic going 1 1/8 miles on the turf at Santa Anita on Jan. 17 for trainer Peter Miller.

Phileas Fogg (Astern), a Grade 2 winner (2025 Suburban), worked five furlongs in 1:02.1 at Belmont Park on Wednesday morning. It was the second fastest of five works at the distance. His previous work was 11 days ago going five furlongs at Belmont Park. In his last start he placed fourth in the Cigar Mile Handicap (G2) going one mile on the main track at Aqueduct on Dec. 6 for trainer Gustavo Rodriguez.

Cash Call (McKinzie), a Grade 3 winner (2025 Summertime Oaks), worked four furlongs in 51.0 seconds at Los Alamitos on Wednesday morning. It was the slowest of seven works at the distance. Her previous work was seven days ago going three furlongs at Los Alamitos. In her last start she placed fifth in the Test (G1) going seven furlongs on the main track at Saratoga on Aug. 2 for trainer Bob Baffert.
