Weather: Laurel cancels, 5 other tracks change schedules
The onset of more adverse weather led to more schedule adjustments Sunday, including the cancellation of races at Laurel Park.
“Due to the winter storm that will impact the mid-Atlantic region, Laurel Park canceled today’s scheduled nine-race program,” a track news release said Sunday morning. “Live racing is scheduled to resume Friday afternoon.”

Rain followed by snow, sleet and strong wind were forecast by the National Weather Service for Maryland on Sunday. Up to three inches of new snow were expected by 2 p.m. EST.
At Aqueduct, post times were accelerated Sunday to try to beat the incoming snow. The first of the eight races still is scheduled for 12:40 p.m. EST, but subsequent starts were moved up to 1:06, 1:32, 1:58, 2:24, 2:50, 3:16 and 3:42 p.m., saving 26 minutes by the end of the afternoon.
A mix of rain and snow were predicted for New York, where up to seven inches of snow may accumulate by Monday morning.
Even though Oaklawn already had called off its holiday Monday program, it still plans to go Sunday at 1:30 p.m. EST. However, morning training was canceled for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday because of the sub-freezing temperature overnight.
A sunny, breezy, 33-degree Sunday was expected in Hot Springs, Ark., with the temperature getting no higher than 30 on Monday with single-digit wind chill.
Anticipating up to three inches of snow Sunday in Youngstown, Ohio, with sub-zero wind chill, Mahoning Valley canceled its Monday and Tuesday races.
Both Gulfstream Park and Fair Grounds are drying out from earlier rain, so they will not have any races on their turf courses Sunday.
