You’re probably aware that Equinox, the world’s no. 1 horse, charged down the stretch in Sunday’s Grade 1 Japan Cup at Tokyo Racecourse to win by four lengths.

You might even have seen a video of his impressive win.

But you might not have seen this one, which has only the surging crowd noise as its soundtrack.

Kate Hunter, who posted the video on X as @KeibaKate, is a native of Tennessee who has lived in Japan for more than a decade working in the racing industry. She has been a liaison working with Japan connections who travel to the Triple Crown, Breeders’ Cup, Saudi Cup and Dubai World Cup.

“I decided to watch the race from the race caller’s room,” she told Horse Racing Nation on Tuesday. “It was quiet, and no one but them were there. Perfect, bird’s eye view.”

The win was the sixth in a row, all in Grade 1 races, for Equinox, a 4-year-old colt sired by Kitasan Black. With a record of 11: 9-2-0 and Sunday’s $3.3 million first-place prize, Equinox ran his career earnings to $11.4 million based on the current rate of exchange.

Equinox has been the world’s top-ranked horse since April, according to worldwide track handicappers polled by the International Federation of Racehorse Authorities.
