Watch: The heart-wrenching story of filly Terra's Angel

Terry Eoff, owner and trainer of 2-year-old filly Terra's Angel, once told jockey Sasha Risenhoover that all his daughter wanted was for the horse to win before she died.

The wife and mother of three was told her cancer was terminal before last Christmas, at which point Eoff named Terra's Angel after her.

“I knew what it’s like growing up without a mother, and knowing what they were about to lose theirs breaks my heart," Risenhoover said. "It just set a fire underneath me, and I was going to do whatever I could do to win that race for her.”

On May 13, Terra's Angel took her debut at Lone Star Park. Four days later, Terra was gone.

The legacy lives on, however, as Terra's Angel continues racing. TVG featured the story before Sunday's running of the $100,000 Trapeze Stakes at Remington Park. Terra's Angel faded from the lead to finish seventh but has a previous stakes win Sept. 4 in the Del Mar Juvenile Fillies Turf.
