Watch: Rock Your World works for likely Belmont start
Rock Your World, preparing for a likely start in the June 5 Belmont Stakes, worked five furlongs in an official 1:01.2 while in company with multiple graded-stakes winner Campaign at Santa Anita Park on Friday.
“It went really well—we’re just trying to keep him healthy and fit,” said Juan Leyva, assistant to trainer John Sadler who clocked Rock Your World in 1:00.4.
Rock Your World completed the drill about three-quarters of a length in front of his older stablemate. Campaign was credited with five furlongs in 1:01.4.
Rock Your World will look to rebound after a disappointing 17th-place finish in the Kentucky Derby as the second-choice in the wagering. In the Derby, Rock Your World broke a step slow under Joel Rosario and then was cut off a few strides out of the gate by Highly Motivated and Javier Castellano.
“I know that kind of thing can happen to anybody. Unfortunately, it was magnified because it was the Derby,” Leyva said.
Rock Your World is among four horses from the Sadler barn likely to make the cross-country trip for the three-day Belmont Stakes Racing Festival. Flagstaff, winner of the Commonwealth (G3) at Keeneland and Churchill Downs Stakes (G1) in his two most recent starts, is pointed to the $300,000 True North (G2) going 6 1/2 furlongs on June 4. Campaign is slated for the $400,000 Brooklyn (G2) contested at 1 1/2 miles on June 5, while Stela Star - unraced since last May’s Honeymoon (G3) at Santa Anita - is targeting the $500,000 Just A Game (G1), also on June 5.
