Gulfstream Park and The Stronach Group will on Saturday honor five members of its first responders who saved a horseman inside his burning car on Thanksgiving Day.
Despite the car catching fire, members of Gulfstream’s first responders smashed the windows of the vehicle and dragged the horseman out of the car before flames engulfed the interior of the vehicle.
First responders to be honored after Saturday’s first race (approximately noon) are:
• Supervisor Felix Ramos
• Supervisor Pele Cine
• Responder Charles Johnson
• Responder James Stipes
• Responder Xavier Figueroa
“If not for these brave individuals, this person would not have survived,” said Gulfstream's general manager, Bill Badgett. “The members of our first responders risked their own lives to rescue another. We are all very proud of these individuals as well as all our first responders. They have been trained to react quickly and efficiently for any situation that might arise, and we thank them for their service.”
The horseman wishes his name not be released.
