Watch: Beau Liam blazes to debut win at Churchill for Asmussen
Trainer Steve Asmussen looks to have another serious colt on his hands as Stonestreet Stable's Beau Liam debuted on Saturday with a smashing 7 1/2-length win at Churchill Downs. The 3-year-old Liam's Map colt went six furlongs in a swift 1:08.62 over a track listed as "fast."
Beau Liam pressed fractions of 21.73 and 45.08 before drawing off in the stretch for the easy win. Odds-on favorite Casual Affair, a regally-bred son of Into Mischief out of Hall of Fame mare Ashado, was never a factor as he checked in fourth after racing evenly.
Beau Liam, who was 8-1 on the morning line, was bet down to 5-1 and paid $13.60 as the slight second-choice in the wagering. He is out of Belle of Perrintown, who won the 2002 Pocahontas and 2003 Silverbulletday (G3) for trainer Eddie Kenneally.
