Wardelle Closes Out Monmouth Meet

Five After Five Stable’s Wardelle launched a four-wide rally around the far turn and pulled clear of Taylors Irish and Catreign in the stretch en route to a two-length score in the closing day feature Sunday at Monmouth Park.

Ridden by Victor Santiago and trained by Henry Carroll, Wardelle covered the six furlongs over a fast main track in 1:11 and paid $3.20, $2.60 and $2.10 as the odds-on favorite in the field of six fillies and mares.  Taylors Irish battled gamely to hold on for second – completing an $11.20 exacta and returning $3.40 and $2.20.  Catreign finished a nose behind in third and returned $3 to show.

Sunday’s victory was the third of the year for Wardelle, a 5-year-old mare by Toccet out of the Bertrando mare Toe in the Water. With the win, Wardelle has now earned over $175,000 for her connections.

Sunday marks the end of live racing at Monmouth Park in 2011.  The track will remain open seven days a week for simulcasting from around the world.
