War Campaign leads last week's fastest stakes winners
War Campaign won the first stakes of his career Saturday, the black-type Tinsel at Oaklawn, and he earned the weekend’s highest Brisnet Speed Rating, 105, of the weekend.
It was the second win in nine starts this year for the 4-year-old son of Declaration of War, who is trained by Philip Sims. With Emmanuel Esquivel riding on a muddy and sealed track, War Campaign took over in the stretch of the 1 1/8-mile race and won by 1 1/2 lengths.
He also got a 97 Beyer Speed Figure from Daily Racing Form.
The highest Beyer of the weekend went to Wolfie’s Dynaghost, winner of the Prairie Bayou at Turfway Park. It was the fifth win in eight starts this year for the 5-year-old son of Ghostzapper, who is trained by Jonathan Thomas and was ridden by Tyler Conner.
