Voodoo Prince, the 3-year-old first son of European and American champion mare Ouija Board, broke his maiden Friday at Haydock Park in the UK. The colt, sired by Kingmambo, is a homebred owned by Lord Derby and trained by Ed Dunlop.
Voodoo Prince was making his second career start, after a sixth-place finish in his debut in April.
Ouija Board won the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf twice, in 2004 and 2006, with a second-place finish to Intercontinental in 2005. She remains the only horse to post non-consecutive victories in a Breeders' Cup race. During her championship career, she won the Vodafone Epsom Oaks, the Prince of Wales's Stakes, and was third in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. She was Europe's Horse of the Year twice and won the Eclipse award for champion turf female in 2004 and 2006.
