Voodoo Daddy Seeks Stakes Success
Terry Raymond’s Voodoo Daddy, a wire-to-wire maiden winner at first asking at Saratoga, tops a field of nine 2-year-olds entered Wednesday for the $125,000 Keeneland 75th Anniversary Stakes to be run Saturday at six furlongs on the main track.
Trained by Steve Asmussen, Voodoo Daddy was the even-money favorite in his most recent start, the Grade 3 Sapling at Monmouth in which he stumbled at the start and finished eighth in the field of 10. Julien Leparoux, who has been aboard the colt in both starts, has the mount Saturday and will break from post position eight.
Two horses come into Saturday’s race undefeated: Paul Morsches Jr.’s Sarge Hudson, a two-time winner on grass at Ellis Park, and George Michaels’ Luke of York, a maiden winner on the main track at Arlington Park.
Corey Lanerie retains the mount on Sarge Hudson, who will break from post position seven for trainer David Carroll. Rajiv Maragh will be aboard Luke of York for the first time and break from post position six for trainer James DiVito.
The field for the Keeneland 75th Anniversary Stakes, from the rail out, is as follows: D’ Wildcat Road (Roberto Morales), Canigotoo (Jamie Theriot), Italo (Jeffrey Sanchez), Norm’s Passion (Garrett Gomez), Sheriff Silverstar (Manny Cruz), Luke of York (Maragh), Sarge Hudson (Lanerie), Voodoo Daddy (Leparoux) and Larry Zip (James Graham). All starters carry 118 pounds.
