Vineyard Haven Retired to Journeyman Stud

Vineyard Haven, a three-time grade I winner and the leading 2-year-old of his generation, has been retired from racing and will stand in 2012 at Brent and Crystal Fernung's Journeyman Stud near Ocala, Fla. A fee will be announced later.

In 2008, Vineyard Haven was the top 2-year-old in New York, winning the Three Chimneys Hopeful Stakes (gr. I) at Saratoga and the Champagne Stakes (gr. I) at Belmont Park in consecutive starts. After wintering in Dubai, he returned to the United States at 3 to finish first in the NetJets King's Bishop Stakes (gr. I) at Saratoga but was disqualified and placed second. In his following start, he defeated older horses in the Frank J. De Francis Memorial Dash Stakes (gr. I) at Laurel.

Vineyard Haven, who competed in grade I races in eight of his 12 starts, also placed in such top races as the Hill ‘n’ Dale Cigar Mile Handicap (gr. I) and the Forego Stakes (gr. I), The 5-year-old son of Lido Palace   was retired with earnings of $772,750.
