Video: Thorpedo Anna can’t be stopped in Travers training

Watching calmly from the outside rail of the Oklahoma training track at Saratoga, trainer Kenny McPeek correctly predicted exercise rider Danny Ramsey would have his hands full Wednesday morning with Thorpedo Anna in preparation for Saturday’s Grade 1 Travers Stakes.

“This is Danny’s toughest job is to get her pulled up right now,” McPeek said while shooting video that he posted on X. “It doesn’t look like it’s going to happen.”

McPeek then was heard chuckling as Ramsey, 75, and Thorpedo Anna, 3, blew past him and galloped all the way to the other end of the track before coming back for gate schooling.

“All good,” McPeek wrote later on X. “Wasn’t exactly to plan, but she’s happy and healthy.”

It was just another training day in the life of the three-time Grade 1 winner who is trying to become the first filly in more than a century to win the Travers. The race also will feature leading 3-year-old male Dornoch, who won the Belmont Stakes covering the same 1 1/4 miles that will be the venue for Saturday’s mid-summer derby.

McPeek has been filling his X page with videos and notices about Thorpedo Anna in an effort to promote the Kentucky Oaks (G1) winner’s showdown with seven males. He also appeared on the Tony Kornheiser Show podcast Wednesday morning.

The Travers will be run Saturday at 6:10 p.m. EDT on what is forecast to be a sunny day at Saratoga.
