Blazing Sevens, a Grade 1 winner at age 2 who most recently finished second beaten only a head in the Preakness, returns Friday at Saratoga. The Chad Brown trainee comes back in the Curlin, a local prep for the Travers that gives him a class break since it is limited to sophomores who have not won a graded stakes at a mile or longer in 2023.

Brown talked to Andrew Capone of Horse Racing Nation on Friday morning about how Blazing Sevens is coming into the race. He also discusses why he decided to run Blazing Sevens in the Curlin instead of the Jim Dandy (G2) as a warm-up for the Travers.

Blazing Sevens lines up against four other foes in the Curlin including Perform, Lost Ark, Scotland and Il Miracolo. He will likely have to deal with a wet track in the Curlin, though his race record suggests he can handle it. He won the Champagne (G1) over a sloppy surface at Aqueduct last September, closing to win by 3 1/4 lengths over Verifying.
