Horse Racing Nation's Andrew Capone caught up with trainer Kenny McPeek on Wednesday at Saratoga as he prepares to run Kentucky Derby winner Mystik Dan in the Belmont Stakes (Saturday) and Kentucky Oaks winner Thorpedo Anna in the Acorn (G1) (Friday).

Mystik Dan followed his Derby win with a second-place finish in the Preakness, 2 1/4 lengths behind Seize the Grey, who also returns Saturday.

"There's some obvious speed and there's some obvious closers" in the 10-horse Belmont field," McPeek said. "We're obviously in the middle. That is going to be interesting, to see how this race unfolds and how the pace sets up."

Regarding Thorpedo Anna, McPeek noted that she's had only two starts this year, winning the Fantasy (G2) before her Oaks score in her most recent start.

"She really didn't need a break. I could have made a case to run her back even in the Preakness," McPeek said. "This is a filly that's just really strong and tough."
