Preakness Stakes winner Swiss Skydiver will be on the mend until 2021 according to a social media post from her trainer, Kenny McPeek.

“Swiss Skydiver injured her heal (sic) much worse than originally thought,” McPeek said in the post. “We put her on antibiotics and will watch closely. Very unlucky but she will rebound in 2021”.

The filly was originally thought to have merely suffered nicks and bruises after stumbling out of the gate at Keeneland on Saturday.

Swiss Skydiver got off poorly in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff on Saturday, a race that was billed as a battle between the filly and 2018 Distaff winner Monomoy Girl. Swiss Skydiver got off to a bad start, sustaining the heel injury and finishing seventh.

After the race, owner Peter Callahan confirmed to Horse Racing Nation that Swiss Skydiver will run again in 2021.

“My family, they’d kill me if she was retired,” Callahan said.
