Vequist, 2020’s 2-year-old champion filly, will not be making her return to the races as soon as planned.

The Nyquist filly is entered in Tuesday's $150,000 Cathryn Sophia Stakes at Parx, along with six other 3-year-old fillies. However, trainer Butch Reid Saturday that she will be scratched.

“She has come up with an issue and won’t be running this week,” Reid said in a text message to Horse Racing Nation.

In addition to the Cathryn Sophia, Reid was also considering an allowance race at Saratoga for Vequist.

Vequist, owned by Swilcan Stable, was eased when last seen in the Davona Dale (G2) in February at Gulfstream. A subsequent endoscope exam revealed she was suffering from congestion in her lungs. Vequist has been working at Saratoga of late, most recently completing a four-furlong drill in 48.23 second on Sunday. It was the 12th fastest out of 80 works at the distance.

In her 2-year-old season, Vequist debuted on July 29 when second in a maiden race at Parx. Instead of entering another maiden race, the filly’s connections sent her straight to the Spinaway Stakes (G1) at Saratoga in September.

After brushing the starting gate at the break, Vequist moved into a forward position and held a four-length advantage at the top of the stretch. She would widen the gap the rest of the way, crossing the wire an easy 9 1/2-length winner.

Vequst followed the Spinaway win in the Frizette (G1) at Belmont a month later and was second to Dayoutoftheoffice.

To close the year, Vequist took an inside trip to the winner’s circle in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies at Keeneland, turning the tables on second place finisher Dayoutoftheoffice.

The Cathryn Sophia is carded as the ninth race at Parx on Tuesday. It has a scheduled post time of 4:42 p.m. EDT.
