Vazquez racks up five wins to expand lead at Remington Park
Ramon Vazquez, currently leading the jockey colony at Remington Park, took full advantage of an opportunity on Saturday night. While some of his other top rivals were out of town to ride in stakes races at other venues, Vazquez stayed put and racked up five wins from this eight mounts on the night.
A three-time defending jockey champ at Remington Park, Vazquez has won the title outright (2013 & 2014) or shared it (2015 with C.J. MaMahon) in each of the last three seasons. Saturday night, Vazquez came into the program leading the standings with 49 wins to the 46 held by McMahon in second place. Vazquez opened up a sizeable lead after his riding quintuple.
Vazquez won the first four races he rode, consecutively from race two thru race five. His run began with Compose ($2.80 to win) in race two, followed by We’ve Got To Talk ($13.40) in race three, Ruby Sioux ($18.60) in race four and Choir Director ($3.20) in race five.
After finishing fourth, fourth and ninth in his next three attempts, Vazquez gained his fifth triumph in the final race of the night. Go Stealth ($5) came home a strong winner to break his maiden and give Vazquez the quintuple.
Now with 54 wins on the season, Vazquez has opened an eight-win lead over McMahon and David Cabrera, both tied for second place with 46 wins. McMahon was one of the jockeys not riding Saturday night at Remington Park due to obligations at other tracks.
