Jockey Paco Lopez 'banged up' but to resume riding soon
Two jockeys involved in separate accidents Saturday at Florida racetracks avoided serious injury.
Paco Lopez was unseated by Fluent in Sarcasm shortly after the break in the ninth race at Gulfstream Park.
Lopez's agent, Cory Moran, said Sunday that the jockey was "real banged up" but expects to ride in Gulfstream's next scheduled races on Thursday.
"His nose and his thumb were swollen," Moran said, but X-rays showed that "everything was good."
"He has a slight fracture in one of his fingers, but he was moving his fingers really good."
Meanwhile, Tampa Bay Downs updated through its Twitter account that Jose Leon dislocated two fingers and pulled ligaments in his leg. He hopes to be ready to ride in seven weeks.
Leon was thrown from from his mount, Blue Solo, in mid-stretch during the ninth race finale at Tampa Bay Downs.
