Jockeys Paco Lopez and Antonio Gallardo could be released later today from Memorial Regional Hospital after being involved in a spill during Saturday’s last race at Gulfstream Park.
Lopez, Gulfstream’s third-leading rider this year and leading rider
last year, suffered a broken collarbone in the spill that occurred at
the top of the stretch in a 7 ½ furlong turf event. Gallardo is sore
from the spill but has no broken bones. A third jockey involved in the
spill, Luis Jurado, walked away from the spill.
The rider’s three horses were not injured.
