Unraced since Kentucky Derby trail, Poster is back at work
Poster, who was taken off the Kentucky Derby trail because of an injury, is back at work at Turfway Park for trainer Eoin Harty.
The 3-year-old Munnings colt returned to the tab Sept. 10 and breezed the last three Tuesdays at Turfway Park. This week, he went four furlongs in 48.8 seconds, fourth fastest of 33 at the distance.
"He's doing great," Harty told Horse Racing Nation on Wednesday. "He showed his old fire, and he still has it. He's coming around quickly."
Bred and owned by Godolphin, Poster was 3-for-3 last year, including a win in the Grade 2 Remsen Stakes. He started his 2025 campaign with a third-place finish in the listed Sam F. Davis and then was fourth in the Jeff Ruby Steaks (G3), picking up 31 Kentucky Derby qualifying points along the way.
Then he was discovered to have a small condylar fracture.
"It was microscopic," Harty said. "I think we put one screw in there, if memory serves me correctly. And so in the grand scheme of things, all injuries are serious, but it could have been a lot worse.
"It was very disappointing," said Harty, who hasn't had a Derby starter since American Lion in 2010. "Just came around at the wrong time."
Harty said Poster likely will return to the starting gate at Churchill Downs's fall meet. "I don't know if he'll make Keeneland, but he'll most likely make Churchill."
