Undrafted Runs Down Something Extra in Shakertown

In Saturday's Shakertown at Keeneland, Undrafted rallied in the middle of the course to run down defending champion Something Extra by a half-length and give trainer Wesley Ward and jockey Joe Bravo their first victory in the race.

Undrafted covered the 5½ furlongs on a turf course labeled as firm in 1:02.96 and earned $120,000 for the victory. Undrafted pushed his record to 23-6-3-8 with earnings of $1,251,778.

A Keeneland sales graduate, Undrafted is a 6-year-old Kentucky-bred gelded son of Purim out of the French Deputy mare French Jeannette.

Latent Revenge and Rocket Heat dueled through fractions of :20.73 and :43.93 with Something Extra just in behind the leading duo racing along the rail. At the head of the stretch, Shaun Bridgmohan sent Something Extra after the leaders and by midstretch had opened a daylight advantage only to be nailed late.

Undrafted returned $9, $5 and $3.80. Something Extra returned $9.80 and $6.80 with Commute finishing a half-length back in third under Jose Lezcano and returning $9.40 to show.

Summation Time finished another length back in fourth and was followed in order by Bye Bye Bernie, American Sailor, Rocket Heat, favored Power Alert (AUS), Latent Revenge, Woodland Walk, The Great War and Sylven Park.

In the Commonwealth, Ami’s Flatter made a three-wide move on the far turn to overhaul pace-setting favorite Holy Boss and Barbados and drew clear for a 2¾-length victory.

Trained by Josie Carroll and ridden by Martin Garcia, Ami’s Flatter covered the seven furlongs on a fast track in 1:21.66. It was the first stakes victory for Garcia at Keeneland. It was Carroll’s first Commonwealth win and fourth Keeneland stakes victory overall.

The victory was worth $150,000 and increased Ami’s Flatter’s earnings to $417,834 with a record of 10-3-2-1. Ami’s Flatter is a 4-year-old Canadian-bred son of Flatter out of the Victory Gallop mare Galloping Ami.

Ami’s Flatter returned $10.60, $5.40 and $3.60. Ready for Rye, ridden by Javier Castellano, returned $5 and $3.40 with Holy Boss finishing a head back in third under Florent Geroux and returning $3.40 to show.

Barbados finished another head back in fourth and was followed in order by No Hiding Place, Departing, Viva Majorca, Clearly Now, Mylute and Far Right.

Making his 2016 debut and his first start since running 11th in the TwinSpires Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) at Keeneland last October, Katherine G. Ball’s Limousine Liberal won today’s second race by 4½ lengths in track-record time. Trained by Ben Colebrook and ridden by Luis Saez, the 4-year-old Successful Appeal gelding covered 6½ furlongs in 1:15.05. He was the 7-10 favorite in the field of seven in the allowance optional claiming race.
