Uncle Mo Cruises in Timely Writer

Uncle Mo went wire-to-wire over four overmatched rivals in Saturday’s Timely Writer Stakes at Gulfstream Park.

The Timely Writer field was reduced to five after expected pace player Madman Diaries scratched, leaving Uncle Mo as the controlling speed. The Todd Pletcher trainee set pedestrian fractions of :25.53, :49.58, and 1:13.69 after a bit of an awkward start under John Velazquez.

Rattlesnake Bridge tracked the pace from the outside and made a run at Uncle Mo after seven furlongs in 1:24.94.

Uncle Mo quickly spurted away and Velazquez took a confident look back as he crossed the line 4-1/2 lengths in front of Rattlesnake Bridge, who was clearly second best.

Gallant Dreams finished 3rd and was followed by Rocking Out and Schoolyard Cat.

Overwhelming favorite Uncle Mo stopped the clock in 1:36.56 and paid $2.10 to win. The Repole Stable colorbearer is expected to make his next start in the Wood Memorial at Aqueduct on April 9.
