Unbridled Mo streaks to fourth straight win in Remington Park Oaks
The Uncle Mo parade continued with another winner in a huge race in North America this year, as Unbridled Mo won the $200,000 Remington Park Oaks for 3-year-old fillies at 1-1/16 miles.
Hall of Fame trainer Todd Pletcher had Unbridled Mo ready for the race and Hall of Fame jockey John Velasquez was in the irons, keeping the filly mid-pack in the early going. In mid-stretch Unbridled Mo quickly left four front-runners in her wake to win by 1-1/4 lengths over Ready To Confess with beaten 1-2 favorite Family Tree finishing third, 2-1/4 lengths behind the winner.
Away at generous 4-1 odds, despite the fact she had won her previous three races in a row, including the Grade 3 Monmouth Park Oaks in August for her final effort before shipping to Oklahoma. One factor that helped make Family Tree the heavy betting favorite is that she had most recently finished third to Songbird, who currently is making history as one of greatest fillies to ever set hooves on a track as she continues to pile up Grade 1 stakes victories.
Unbridled Mo paid $10.80, $4.60 and $2.80 across the board. The $2 exacta was worth $89 with Ready to Confess and the $1 tri with the heavy favorite paid $102.90. The 5-8-9-7 superfecta $1 play returned $455.20.
The running time for the Remington Oaks was 1:42.03 after fractions of :23.73 for the opening quarter-mile; :47.06 for the half-mile; 1:11.17 for three-quarters of a mile and 1:35.94 for the mile.
Unbridled Mo pocketed $120,000 in earnings to boost her career marks to four wins in five starts with $223,680 in her bankroll. Unbridled Mo was bred in Kentucky by her owner Red Oak Stable of Old Bridge, N.J. She is out of the Unbridled mare Unbridled Waters.
GIANNA’S DREAM EASILY WINS BOB BARRY MEMORIAL STAKES AT REMINGTON PARK
When jockey Joel Rosario gets a leg up on a horse anywhere nationally or internationally, he draws the respect of every crowd for which he performs. He wins in Dubai with Animal Kingdom in the richest race in the world in 2013 and then follows that up with a win aboard Orb in the 2013 Kentucky Derby. So when his plane set down in Oklahoma City on Sunday to ride in five of the races on Oklahoma Derby Day, he didn’t disappoint.
Rosario had already won two stakes races on the 10-stakes card when the final race of the night rolled around – the $50,000 Bob Barry Memorial Stakes, a 7-1/2 furlongs turf race for Oklahoma-breds.
Rosario had the mount on 3-5 odds-on favorite Gianna’s Dream and by the end of the race, he had not only won his third stakes race of the night, but he had actually moved into ninth place in the Remington Park jockey standings for season earnings. All in a day’s work.
Gianna’s Dream finished four lengths ahead of runner-up, 65-1 longshot Miss Oreo. Another head behind was Lingering Smoke. A 3-year-old filly by Twirling Candy, conditioned by national trainer Michael Maker, Gianna’s Dream stopped the clock in 1:29.31 over the firm turf and paid $3.40 to win, $2.60 to place and $2.20 to show. The huge longshot Miss Oreo returned $33 to place and $14.60 to show. Lingering Smoke was worth $3.40 on a show ticket.
Owned by Jordan Wycoff of Fort Washington Pa., Gianna’s Dream improved her record to three wins in four tries and banked another $30,000 for the win, giving her $135,158 lifetime. She is bred in Oklahoma by Center Hills Farm & Randy Blair and is out of the Rahy mare Untamed Beauty.
The Bob Barry Memorial is named after Bob Barry, Jr. and his father Bob Barry, Sr. The Oklahoma sportscasters covered the action for over 60 years in the Oklahoma City media market. Bob Barry, Jr. passed away in an automobile accident in 2015 while his father passed away in 2011.
