Udoknowjack Pointing to Star Guitar

Trainer Jorge Gomez must have made some very serious New Years resolutions, as his 5-year-old Louisiana-bred starter-allowance runner Udoknowjack has reeled off three consecutive victories in impressive style and with formidable numbers since 2015 commenced.

On Jan. 3, in an allowance optional claimer over a mile, the son of Storm Day stalked and then ran off to an impressive 3½-length victory over the sealed, muddy going. A mere 13 days later, the dark bay gelding went gate-to-wire in a mile and 70-yard starter allowance event and then repeated that form 22 days later on Feb. 7 under the same conditions in a respectable 1:43.11 – earning a career-high 96 Equibase Speed Figure in the process.  Said trio of victories made him a perfect three-for-three with Marcelino Pedroza in the saddle.

“He’s doing really good right now,” Gomez said.  “Everything is great, but you never know with horses; anything can happen.  Right now, we are going to try another starter that is supposed to go on (Feb.) 27th and if he wins that, we’ll look at the ($60,000 Star Guitar) Stakes for Louisiana-breds on (Mar.) 28th.  He’s consistent and every race he gets better.”

The Star Guitar is on the Louisiana Derby undercard and is slated for 1 1/16 miles over the main track.
