Two yearlings sell for $325,000 at Keeneland Sale on Tuesday

Two yearlings, a filly by Warrior’s Reward and a colt by Stay Thirsty, each sold for $325,000 to headline a solid day of trade during Tuesday’s eighth session of Keeneland’s 12-day September Yearling Sale.
Today Keeneland sold 285 yearlings for gross sales of $15,571,000, for an average of $54,635 and a median of $40,000.
“European pinhookers in particular were very active today; it was a good mix of domestic and foreign participation,” Keeneland Director of Sales Operations Geoffrey Russell said.
To date, 1,740 yearlings have been sold for $288,869,000, for an average of $166,017 and a median of $100,000.
Warrendale Sales, agent for Hargus and Sandra Sexton and Silver Fern Farm, consigned the Warrior’s Reward filly, who sold for $325,000 to Charlotte Weber’s Live Oak Plantation. Out of the winning Unbridled mare Unbridled Appeal, the filly is a half-sister to stakes-placed Southern Parkway, Belleofthebridle and Unbridled Reward.
Robert B. Hess Jr. paid $325,000 for the Stay Thirsty colt out of the winning Candy Ride (ARG) mare Candy Trophy. Consigned by Betz Thoroughbreds, agent, the colt is from the family of Grade 1 winner and sire Twirling Candy and Grade 3 winner Chocolate Candy.
Glen Hill Farm’s Craig Bernick went to $260,000, the day’s second-highest price, for a filly by Bodemeister from the family of multiple Grade 3 winner and sire Desert Code. She was consigned by Warrendale Sales, agent for Hargus and Sandra Sexton and Silver Fern Farm.
Highlighted by sales of two top-priced horses, Warrendale Sales, agent, ranked as the session’s leading consignor, selling 17 yearlings for $1,568,000.
Hal Hatch II was the day’s leading buyer, purchasing seven horses for $525,000.
