A big win by Two Phil’s in the Grade 3 Ohio Derby Saturday was expected, but Society’s record-breaking performance matches or betters him in terms of the weekend’s speed figures.

Society, a 4-year-old Gun Runner filly trained by Steve Asmussen, won the relocated Chicago (G3) at Ellis Park by 10 3/4 lengths, covering the seven furlongs in 1:20.54, a track record for the distance. Tyler Gaffalione was aboard for Society’s first win in three starts this year. She was the second choice behind odds-on favorite Matareya, and she paid $6.38 for the win.

The filly earned a 105 Brisnet Speed Rating, last week’s highest for stakes winners, a 105 Beyer Speed Figure, according to Daily Racing Form, and a 125 TimeformUS Speed Figure.

Two Phil’s earned a 100 Brisnet, a 105 Beyer and a from 122 TimeformUS for his easy win in the Ohio Derby for trainer Larry Rivelli. With Gerrardo Corrales riding, they went 1 1/8 miles in 1:49.60 to win by 5 3/4 lengths.

The Hard Spun colt was found to have an ankle injury the next day, and connections haven’t determined whether he will return or be retired to stud.

Here are the figures for last week's highest-rated stakes winners, ranked by Brisnet Speed Ratings, with Beyer Speed Figures and TimeformUS Speed Figures, where available.
