Twirling Candy Ready for Tougher Test

Trainer John Sadler reported his undefeated Oceanside Stakes winner Twirling Candy in good shape Thursday morning following the 3-year-old colt's impressive victory in Del Mar's opening-day feature.

"We'll be looking at a number of races for him," Sadler said. "If we go the traditional route, he could run in the La Jolla [Handicap Saturday, August 14] and then into the Del Mar Derby [Sunday, September 5]. Also, we have another horse for that series -- Sidney's Candy -- who could run in the La Jolla and let Twirling Candy wait for the Derby.

"Sidney's Candy came out of the Swaps Stakes [at Hollywood Park] in good shape. He just got nipped at the wire [by Skipshot]."

Both Sidney's Candy and Twirling Candy were bred by Jenny Craig and her late husband, Sid, are owned by the Craig Family Trust and were sired by the Craigs' Candy Ride, the 2003 winner of the $1-million Pacific Classic.
