Turfway race is delayed due to foot chase across infield
There was a delay at Turfway before the second race Thursday after a person ran across the infield.
According to a post on X from Turfway announcer Tony Calo, the runner was caught by people on the starting gate crew. In his post Calo also shared pictures of local law enforcement vehicles on the Turfway premises with sirens on.
Writer and photographer Cady Coulardot posted a video on X of the suspect running through the infield, two people catching up and apprehending the suspect and the suspect being taken into custody on the scene. Patterns on the cars matched those of the Boone County Sheriff's Department.
Calo's post was timestamped at 6:25 p.m. EDT, which was the published post time for the second race at Turfway, a starter allowance for 3-year-old fillies who had started for $50,000 or less or broken their maiden in a maiden auction race. According to the Equibase chart for the race, that race went off at 6:33 p.m. EDT. Kelsey Danner trainee Meucci's Revenge disputed the pace with long shot Bella Vittoria, opened up in the turn, and ran on to win by 4 3/4 lengths.
