Turfway cancels Saturday racing due to winter storm
Turfway has canceled racing for Saturday because of severe winter weather. The entire card will be moved to Dec. 21.
The Sunday, Dec. 21 program will feature the complete $1 million synthetic championships originally scheduled for Saturday including the $250,000 Prairie Bayou, $250,000 Holiday Cheer, $250,000 My Charmer and the $250,000 Holiday Inaugural. The card will not be re-drawn. First post for that card will be at 3 p.m. EST.
Forecasters with the National Weather Service predict a high of 31 on Saturday in Florence, Ky., with an 80% chance of precipitation and snow mainly after 2 p.m. EST. Accumulation of two to four inches of snow is possible. Another one to three inches is possible through the evening. The overnight low is predicted to be near four degrees. Though forecasters do not predict more snow for Sunday, temperatures are expected to remain frigid, with a forecast high near 13 in Florence.
A winter storm advisory is in place from Saturday at 1 p.m. EST through Sunday at 7 a.m. EST. A cold weather advisory runs from 7 p.m. EST on Saturday through 11 a.m. EST on Monday.
Racing is scheduled to resume Sunday with a 12-race card beginning at 1:05 p.m. EST. The feature on Sunday is the $100,000 Steady Growth Stakes at 1 1/16 miles on the Tapeta. That race drew a field of nine headlined by 2023 King's Plate winner Paramount Prince.
