Turfway: Maxisuperfly (23-1) never trails in Cincinnati Trophy
Never off the board in four starts at Turfway Park, Maxisuperfly was a gate-to-wire surprise Friday night, pulling off a 23-1 upset to win the $150,000 Cincinnati Trophy, a black-type stakes that was a points prep for the Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks.

Bought for $18,000 a yearling, the 3-year-old Optimizer filly trained by Eric Foster got an alert start from post 5 in the field of 10. Jockey Walter Rodríguez guided her to a 1 1/2-length victory in 1:37.31 covering the mile on a wet, 38-degree night.
Maxisuperfly clicked off early fractions of 24.03, 47.11 and 1:11.57 on the Tapeta course. Rodríguez went to the crop at the end of the second turn and then twice more before the furlong pole, and Maxisuperfly never faced a serious threat.
Barbratina (9-2) rallied late along the rail and finished second, post-time favorite Living Magic (2-1) was third, Everland (4-1) fourth and Cozee Rags (9-1) fifth. The top five finishers earned 20-10-6-4-2 toward qualifying for the May 3 running of the Kentucky Oaks.
Maxisuperfly returned $48.36, $19.14 and $9.66; Barbratina $6.86 and $4.38; and Living Magic $4.10. With $88,280 in first-place money, Maxisuperfly raised her earnings to $124,947 from a record of 5: 2-1-1.
Owned by Maxis Stable, the Foster family and Chris Vitale, Maxisuperfly was bred in Kentucky by Calumet Farm and is out of the Tapit mare Firefly. After finishing last in his debut Oct. 21 at Keeneland, she has run her last four races going a mile at Turfway. She finished second in maiden company Dec. 9, became a first-time winner Jan. 18 and was a distant third in a $50,000 allowance race Feb. 10.
