Turbulent Descent Cuts Back in Beaumont

Two-time grade one route winner Turbulent Descent turns back in distance and returns to synthetic ground in Sunday's seven furlong Beaumont (G2) at Keeneland.

Mike Puype made some waves when he said Turbulent Descent would skip the Kentucky Oaks and point to sprint races after winning the Santa Anita Oaks (G1) at a mile and a sixteenth on March 5. The tactical daughter of Congrats captured a pair of synthetic sprints to begin her juvenile campaign and is 3-for-3 overall on all-weather tracks. She will break from the outside post under regular pilot David Flores.

Tell A Kelly won the seven panel Darley Debutante (G1) over Del Mar's Polytrack last summer and that race produced a pair of next out grade one winners. She placed in a pair of grade one routes after that and has not been seen since rallying for the show behind Turbulent Descent in the Hollywood Starlet (G1). The daughter of Tapit is now under the care of Chad Brown and has worked every 6-7 days since March 11. Both career wins occurred in Polytrack sprints and she appears ready to rumble off the shelf.

Gran Lioness has won a pair of non-graded sprint stakes and will be part of the pace along with Honey Chile. The latter romped in a local allowance sprint last fall and might need the outing.

Coax Liberty ran well in a pair of inner dirt sprints at Aqueduct over the winter and tries synthetic for the first time.

Finally, Al Stall Jr. will be represented by Aide. She turned heads in a 19-length entry level laugher at Churchill Downs last fall but has lost all three starts since.

The Beaumont goes as the 8th race at Keeneland on April 17.
