Turallure Finishes Fast in Baruch

Turallure picked up the first graded
stakes victory of his career Friday afternoon at Saratoga Race Course
when he upset favored Get Stormy to win the Grade 2, $200,000 Bernard
Baruch Handicap.
Racing on the inside towards the back of the pack as Get Stormy led the field through a half-mile in 48.45 and three-quarters in 1:12.45, Turallure advanced around the far turn and swung wide into the stretch. Closing rapidly down the outside of the course, Turallure put away the stubborn pacesetter and drew away to win by 2 ¼ lengths.
The winner was clocked in 1:48.75 for 1 1/8 miles over turf rated "good."
"When I saw how fast they were going up front, I knew we were going to close ground," said Charles Lopresti, who trains Turallure for Donna Arnold. "That's a tough horse on the front end [Get Stormy], he really ran a great race. I thought we'd get by him quicker and he hung on."
Friday's was the third stakes victory for Turallure, who improved his record to 5-2-3 from 14 starts and earned $120,000 to boost his bankroll to $294,045. The 9-1 fourth choice in the field of 11, the 4-year-old son of Wando returned $20 for a $2 win bet.
"At the quarter-pole, I thought I had [Get Stormy]," said winning jockey Julien Leparoux. "Coming into the stretch, he kept fighting. He made us work for it."
Get Stormy, winner of the Bernard Baruch in 2010, held second, finishing three-quarters of a length ahead of Baryshnikov.
"He ran terrific," trainer Tom Bush said of the runner-up. "He ran super. He wasn't as relaxed as we would have liked, and he was getting tired at the eighth-pole, but he was still trying."
Boots Ahead, Moryba, Hymn Book, Paris Vegas, Loup Breton, Interaction, Beau Choix and Blues Street completed the order of finish.
