Turallure Euthanized after Keeneland Breakdown

Turallure, who came within a whisker of overcoming the 13-post position to win the 2011 Breeders’ Cup Mile, was euthanized Thursday after suffering a compound fracture of a hind pastern during a routine gallop at Keeneland.

Trainer Charlie LoPresti told Daily Racing Form that surgeons at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital worked to save Turallure, but determined the extent of the injury was too severe. 

The six-year-old son of Wando won six of 26 career starts for owner, Donna Arnold, with earnings of better than $1.3 million.

Besides his near miss to Court Vision in the Breeders' Cup, Turallure also won the Grade 1 Woodbine Mile, Bernard Baruch, and Opening Verse that same year.

His best result in 2013 was a second place finish in the Grade 1 Maker's Mark Mile this spring at Keeneland.
