Tuesday's 6th race from Santa Anita Park (12-26-17) is the Grade 2 Mathis Brothers Mile for 3-year-olds traveling one mile on the turf course.
#5 BOWIES HERO (7-2) finished behind today’s rival Big Score in his last three starts (152, 146, 147 Today's Racing Digest Final Ratings) but those races were nine furlong events and he is 4-for-6 at a flat mile. Kent D strings along and he might finish full of run.
#2 B Squared (5-1) is 2-for-3 on turf but both wins were against CA-bred stakes foes (146 Final Oct 21 - 6.5T). He projects a decent ground saving tactical trip.
#8 Big Score (5-2) added blinkers and hit the board in his last three graded turf routes (156, 147, 149 Finals) and the consistent colt sports a couple of wins at one mile.
#3 Colonist (4-1) reconnects with winning rider Nakatani and the $300k purchase was not disgraced in his last two graded turf routes at DMR (146, 147 Finals) vs. Sharp Samurai. The fresh stalker might work out a trip at a hint of a price.
#1 Kroy (6-1) had his 3-race win streak snapped in a place finish as the even money favorite in a $75k turf stakes at GPW Nov 4. Blinkers have definitely helped and he might get brave if able to control the pace from the rail under Castellano.
THE PLAYS:
#5 to win
Exacta 5/1-2-3-8
Exacta 1-2-3-8/5
Superfecta 2-5/2-5-8/ALL/1-2-3-5-8
