Gale Springer and Gabe Grossberg’s True Brew, unhurried early, rallied strongly under jockey James Graham when set down for the drive and bested Keith Lazarz’s Thundering Chance in the late stages of Monday’s Fair Grounds filly and mare feature, contested at about 5 1/2-furlongs over a firm Stall-Wilson turf course.

The winner, trained by Bobby Springer, got the distance in 1:04.78, increased her career earnings to $81,000 with her second win in 13 lifetime starts and paid $15.40, $7 and $5.20.

Thundering Chance was second best, returning $5.60 and $4.20 while finishing three-quarters of a length in front of Ronny Werner’s Scintillation, who paid $4.60.

Scintillation made the pace with splits of 23:09 and 46:95 before weakening against the top two in the late stages.

Live racing returns Thursday at Fair Grounds with a nine-race program beginning at 12:40 p.m.
