Derby trail: Dornoch, Conquest Warrior lead 41 Saturday works
Fountain of Youth winner Dornoch returned to the work tab Saturday for the first time since winning the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth on March 2.
The Danny Gargan trainee, a full brother to 2023 Kentucky Derby winner Mage, worked four furlongs in a moderate 49.9 seconds over the Palm Meadows dirt.
Also the winner of the Grade 2 Remsen over Sierra Leone, Dornoch is an 8-1 best price in Las Vegas. That makes him the third-shortest behind Sierra Leone and Timberlake. He is also a 10-1 price in pool 5 of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager as of 2:35 p.m. EDT on Saturday. That pool closes at 6 p.m. EDT Sunday.

Conquest Warrior, preparing for a possible start in the Florida Derby, fired a Saturday-morning bullet at Payson Park. His five-furlong time of 1:01.0 was the fastest of six at the distance. Trained by Shug McGaughey, Conquest Warrior won an allowance race at Gulfstream Park on March 1. Despite lacking stakes experience, he is a 15-1 best price in Las Vegas and a 17-1 price in Pool 5 of the KDFW as of 2:35 p.m. EDT on Saturday.
Seven of the twelve horses entered in the Louisiana Derby (G2) next Saturday also posted their final tune-ups. Those include 3-1 morning-line favorite Track Phantom, who covered five furlongs in 1:01.6 for trainer Steve Asmussen. Track Phantom is a 10-1 best price in Las Vegas and a 26-1 price as of 2:35 p.m. EDT on Saturday in the fifth KDFW pool.
