The Triple Crown Tracker checks in with the horses who raced in the 2025 Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont, keeping up with what they have done since the classics.
2025 Kentucky Derby
Three horses from the 2025 Kentucky Derby field were in action Saturday in the Breeders' Cup at Del Mar.
Citizen Bull put up a hard-fought runner-up effort in the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile. He send to the lead and set a flying pace, but still had enough left to give Nysos, his heavily favored stablemate from the Bob Baffert barn, a challenge down the lane. He fought all the way to the wire, and though he lost the head bob to Nysos, he was 3 1/4 lengths clear of the next closest foe, Chancer McPatrick.
Two more from the field, Journalism and Baeza, raced in the Breeders' Cup Classic. Journalism tracked in range and made an early move but flattened in the lane, finishing fourth beaten 3 3/4 lengths by Forever Young. Baeza settled near the rear and mustered a rally around the far turn, but weakened to sixth in the lane, finishing 9 1/2 lengths behind the winner.
Kentucky Derby winner Sovereignty was also entered in the Breeders' Cup Classic. He was named the morning-line favorite, but came down with a temperature before the race and was scratched by trainer Bill Mott.
Three others from this year's Kentucky Derby field recently made starts in races outside the Breeders' Cup, with two returning in graded-stakes company. Owen Almighty, making his second start since his fifth-place finish in the Kentucky Derby, squared off against Barnes in the seven-furlong Perryville (G2) on Oct. 18 at Keeneland. He tracked in range early but flattened out in the lane, crossing the wire third beaten 12 3/4 lengths by the west-coast invader. On Oct. 25 on the grass at at Keeneland, Final Gambit had a troubled trip in the one-mile Bryan Station (G3). He checked early and trailed, but mustered a good late run – though he finished eighth, he finished just three lengths behind winner Troubleshooting.
Chunk of Gold dropped into second-level allowance company for a 1 1/8-mile dirt race at Keeneland on Oct 24. The narrow 8-5 second choice in the field of six, he set the pace from the outset and bounded clear in the lane, winning by 8 1/4 lengths over 3-2 favorite So Sandy.

He battled with Dragoon Guard through midstretch, but was caught by a pair of older Grade 1 winners late. Hit Show made the winning run, getting up by a length, with Rattle and Roll taking the place by a neck over Gosger.
Pay Billy recently returned to the work tab for the first time since finishing seventh in the Preakness. A two-time stakes winner at Laurel, he drilled a bullet four furlongs at Delaware on Oct. 23 and then returned with another four-furlong move five days later.

Hill Road, third in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile last year, squared off against some of the best in the world on the Del Mar lawn on Saturday. The longest shot in the field of 14, the Chad Brown trainee settled near the rear in the field of 14 and did not kick on enough to prove a threat. He finished 10th, 7 3/4 lengths behind Ethical Diamond.
Uncaged dropped to allowance company for the first time since the spring, contesting the same 1 1/8-mile allowance on Oct. 24 as Chunk of Gold. Settled a distant last in the field of six, he made a mild run late to pass a rival and finish fifth, 12 lengths behind runaway winner Chunk of Gold.
Crudo, Uncaged's stablemate in the Todd Pletcher barn, returns to action Saturday in the Dwyer at Aqueduct. He returns to dirt after a pair of fourth-place finishes on grass in September and October. Crudo drew the outside in a field of six, and adds blinkers for the first time.
