Trevor Denman will announce the 2022 Del Mar summer season
Trevor Denman will be back in the announcer's booth for his 38th Del Mar summer season when the meet opens July 22.
Denman, 69, has missed three of the past four Del Mar meets. In 2020, the iconic racecaller missed both of Del Mar's meets as a precaution against COVID. It was the first time since 1984 Denman had missed a summer stand at Del Mar.
He returned to his perch at Del Mar last summer, but then had to miss the fall stand due to an injured back. Larry Collmus served as Denman's primary replacement with John Lies also filling in.
Denman was expected back on the microphone this summer at Del Mar and it was confirmed Wednesday.
Denman was the primary racecaller for all three of Southern California's major tracks (Santa Anita, Hollywood Park, Del Mar) for decades before cutting back to only Del Mar in 2016. He now resides on a 500-acre that he owns in Kellogg, Minn.
