Gary and Mary West’s Treasury Bill circled up with a four-wide bid around the far turn and wore down Cousin Michael inside the final sixteenth to post a near length victory in the $37,800 allowance/optional claiming feature at Monmouth Park on Friday afternoon.

Trained by Wayne Catalano, Treasury Bill covered the mile and a sixteenth over a fast main track in 1:44 2/5 and paid $4, $2.60 and $2.20 as the favorite in the field of seven colts and geldings.  Cousin Michael completed the $12.80 exacta and paid $3 and $2.20.  It was another 2 ½ lengths back to Sharp Omar, who paid $3 to show.  Overnight rains forced Friday’s feature from the turf to the main track.

“There was plenty of speed in the race,” said winning rider Eddie Castro.  “I moved him to the outside and he really ran good in the stretch.  He fought all the way to the wire.”

Friday’s win marked the third in 13 starts for Treasury Bill, a 4-year-old colt by Lemon Drop Kid from the Menifee mare Wow Me Free.
