Travers day brings record handle of $63 million to Saratoga

Saturday’s 14-race Travers day card, highlighted by Fierceness’s victory in the 155th running of the Grade 1, $1.25 million Travers Stakes, generated record setting all-sources wagering handle of $63,023,405.

The 2024 figure represents a 13.4 percent increase over the prior Travers day record of $55,559,317, which was established in 2022.

Paid attendance Saturday was 47,844 with on-track handle of $11,267,864.

The Travers was the centerpiece of a card featuring four additional Grade 1 contests including the $750,000 Sword Dancer, a 1 1/2-mile turf route for 3-year-olds and up won by Far Bridge; the $500,000 Ballerina Handicap, a seven-furlong sprint for fillies and mares won by Society; the $500,000 Forego at seven furlongs for older horses won by Forego; and the $500,000 H. Allen Jerkens Memorial for sophomores sprinting seven furlongs won by Domestic Product

The 2024 summer meet continues Sunday and one final week from Thursday through Labor Day next Monday.
