Trainer John Parisella, who admitted he illegally used turn-down shoes on Cocoa Lad, the winner of Saturday's third race at Aqueduct, has been socked with a $2,500 fine by NYRA stewards and placed on probation for the rest of 1995.
Though no records are kept on such matters, the fine is believed to be among the stiffest in New York racing history. However, Parisella avoided a suspension, which some felt was forthcoming.
Parisella declined to comment yesterday on the stewards' action, but did say that he did not intend to appeal.
