Trainer Larry Jones announced that he is coming out of self-imposed retirement as a trainer and will take over the reins of the barn that has been in the hands of his wife, Cindy, for the past year.
Jones, a Hopkinsville native who for years stabled at Ellis Park before moving to a Delaware base, is bringing a string of horses to Arkansas this month to begin readying for the live season at Oaklawn Park, which begins Jan. 14.
“Cindy said it is her turn to retire,” Jones said with a laugh. “But I presume she’ll be around the barn a lot.”
As was Jones, who officially worked as an exercise rider for his wife as the stable had mostly horses they also owned or which were owned by Brereton Jones.
