Trainer John Dunlop Announces Retirement

JOHN DUNLOP has announced his retirement from the training ranks after a glittering career lasting 46 years during which he won ten British Classics and countless Group 1s.

Dunlop, who is 73 and an OBE for his charity work, has trained from Castle Stables in Arundel and has had Hamdan Al Maktoum as a big supporter. He will step down at the end of the season.

Dunlop said: "It's been a wonderful innings but all good things come to an end. I told my owners at the start of the day and obviously we are all a bit sad but there have been some great days, particularly Ragstone's Gold Cup,  the two Derby winners and in this week my three St Leger winners at Doncaster, where I will be going tomorrow.
