The Hippity Hop Derby, a between-races staple of  Del Mar racing days involving the kids of Camp Del Mar, will have a spin-off for the CARMA charity on Wednesday. Thirteen trainers have paid a $100 entry fee to sit astride the bouncy-balls between the fifth and sixth races and make the up, down and forward dash traditionally reserved for kids in single-digit age groups.

The winner will be the first to cross the finish line and run to a bottle of Maker’s Mark at the end.

A handicap, in post position order, with comments provided by event organizer, TVG’s  Britney Eurton:

1. Dan Blacker 2-1: He has age and athleticism on his side. The one to beat.
2. Tim Yakteen 5-2: Posted a bullet work on the bouncy ball August 31.
3. Vann Belvoir 7-2: Should show a strong closing kick for a barn that throws nothing but winners.
4. Simon Callaghan 5-1: Youngest of the group, his British form is impeccable. Making his stateside debut.
5. Richard Baltas 8-1: Hails from a barn that is on fire, but the Hippity Hop percentage is unknown.
6. Doug O'Neill 10-1: Has sired multiple runners in the Hippity Hop Race. Looking to get back to his winning Kentucky Hippity Hop Derby form.
7. Eoin Harty 12-1: This Yankee fan draws a great post today. Will need a clean break from the start against this competition.
8. Mike Machowsky 8-1: Prefers the turf, but is giving synthetic a try today.
9. Peter Miller 8-1: Hails from a high percentage barn. Don't expect him to let anyone pass him in a stretch run duel.
10. Peter Eurton 6-1: Brings his jockey experience to the table today against a fresh group.
11. Adam Kitchingman 3-1: Only entrant to have an actual Hippity Hop Race under his belt.
12. Ron Ellis 5-2: Sire of Hippity Hop winner Christine Ellis and has been training consistently well up to his debut.
Also Eligible: George Papaprodromou 10-1: Will draw into a tough post, but could cause a surprise upset win.
