Corey Nakatani, the jockey who last year guided Bolt d'Oro in what remain some of his top performances, will be back in the irons should the colt run in the 2018 Preakness Stakes.

Matt Nakatani, Corey's son and agent, made the announcement Thursday evening on Twitter, ending a bit of drama between the jockey and horse's camps.

Corey Nakatani didn't immediately lose the mount after Bolt d'Oro suffered his first defeat in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile, stuck wide at Del Mar. But before the colt returned to the races at age 3, Bolt d'Oro's owner and trainer made the switch to Javier Castellano, who rode in both of Bolt's preps for the Kentucky Derby. Victor Espinoza then inherited the assignment in the Derby with Castellano opting to pilot third-place finisher Audible.

Nakatani has won 10 Breeders' Cup races but is still looking for his first Triple Crown race series win. For what it's worth at this point, Matt Nakatani indicated Bolt d'Oro's next start is still to be decided. Ruis said Thursday he expects the colt to run May 19 at Pimlico so long as there's a dry track. Bolt d'Oro ran 12th last out in the Derby.

Under Nakatani, Bolt d'Oro won his first three races, including a performance in Santa Anita's Grade 1 FrontRunner that established himself as the early Kentucky Derby favorite last fall.
