Five Things
You Need To Know about the Preakness Pace:

1) TimeformUS
Pace Projector places #8 Social Inclusion on a clear lead, in a Fast Pace, in the Preakness.

2)
Right behind is #5 Bayern, and favored #3 California Chrome. Trainer Bob Baffert removes the blinkers on Bayern in an attempt to have him sit behind the lead, just as indicated by Pace Projector.  However, his running style is designated as 'leader,' and it remains to be seen if the equipment change will do the trick.
3)
California Chrome is projected to be sitting third, exactly where he was in the Derby.  It obviously suits him to employ a similar strategy here, and jockey Victor Espinoza figures to let him run his race regardless of the action directly in front of him.

4)
Amongst the possible beneficiaries of a fast early pace is #10 Ride On Curlin, who has the second best late pace figure in the field (96).  Despite some significant traffic problems in the Derby, he made up more than eight lengths in the stretch - the most of any horse in the race.  He was one of only two horses (the other being runner-up Commanding Curve) to come home in less than 26 seconds (25.81).

5)
The horse with the best late pace figure is #7 Kid Cruz (99). Claimed for 50K by Linda Rice last fall, he has shown a powerful closing kick, especially in a stakes at Laurel two races back.  He would, however, have to significantly improve upon his TFUS speed figures in order to make any impact here.
